I used this machine with Windows 7 installed, then installed the Linux Mint version 17 64-bit operating system. What I like about this laptop is that Sony has designed a keyboard for this 15.5 inch laptop that has a built-in numeric keypad. The cool thing is that the keyboard is a joy to type on and the numeric keypad is a regular sized keypad, and not a small narrow sized one that you see on competing laptops. This laptop does great for common sense simple applications, such as web surfing, email, and the other applications that do not make use of videos or games. It's not a powerhouse gaming laptop by any stretch of the imagination.
If only Sony can make a similar laptop with this price point and with a higher end processor, that would be an excellent combination and also a best buy for the consumer, but in this case, I will take what I can get.

I upgraded to this computer from a Dell. I absolutely LOVE this thing!!! The screen width is amazing and it's so clear and crisp. The size of the keyboard and the amount of space between the keys makes typing a breeze, and I absolutely love the number pad. The mouse pad itself isn't as sensitive as I'm used to but the texture is really nice, it's going to take a lil getting used to on my part. The set up was extremely easy just a few "next" buttons and it was done, my husband could have done it which is saying something lol. The different things you can do with personalization is fantastic! I love being able to personalize anything I have and this computer just has so many options including pre installed themes that you can edit or make your own. The speed is unbelievable, it's just been smooth sailing ever since I turned it on. The shipping was extremly fast, as always. Maybe I love it so much because it's such a nice extreme upgrade from my Dell, either way I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price I paid. I know some other customers were able to get it even cheaper then I did, I would consider that an absolute steal! All in all, if you want a nice sleek looking laptop thats easy to use and fast, this is it!

This is my second Sony Vaio laptop.I also have a Sony Vaio All-in-one desktop. They are both solid computers for what I mainly use them for, internet and occasional document creation.The older laptop had poor speaker volume and about two years into usage, the keyboard started malfunctioning.As with most laptops, the battery died about 1.5 years into usage.Purchased a non-Sony battery on-line to save money.That one died in about 4 months and I could only used the laptop when plugged-in.This new laptop is only one month old and functions well.The speaker volume issue seems to have been corrected.Only time will tell about the keyboard and battery life.Would've given this laptop 5 stars if it were not for the over-use of plastic.Everything is made of a cheap plastic to save money and it gives the laptop a flimsy feel compared to other laptops I've used.
This is by the far the best purchase I've ever made online. I will definitely look on Amazon.com first before anywhere else for future purchases. Not only did I save about $150 from the closest competitor but it also shipped in 2 days when I only paid for standard shipping which normally takes 5-10 business days. The laptop was brand new and better than the description. I am most pleased with this purchase.
I purchased this Sony Vaio to replace the Atinquated piece of hardware the resembles a laptop that is slower than molasses,(pentIII CPU) enough said about the dinosaur, when I got my new laptop I couldn't be happier with the speed of shipping and the ease of setting it up for the first time... my brother said he had many problems with his Vaio and wouldn't recommend buying one, but I had already bought it when he found out I did, let's just hope he just got the ONLY lemon in the bunch, as for now I LOVE THIS LAPTOP.
